Let’s Build Your Dream Home Together!

Walking down the aisle with your sweetheart. Holding your child for the first time. Stepping over the threshold into your new home. Building your dream home ranks up there with the most meaningful milestones life has to offer.
Like any major life event, building a home is a journey. The excitement of starting is so much fun – making choices and signing contracts with high hopes for a great experience! For many people, the most difficult part of the whole process can be what comes shortly after – the feeling of “waiting around” for something to happen. Here's what to expect over the next several months.
Ready, Set, Wait?
At the start, you might not see much activity on your homesite. Don’t worry! A lot of behind-the-scenes stuff is happening. This is when we secure the various permits, finalize plans, distribute blueprints to the plumbers, electricians and framers, and order materials. It might be several weeks before any major activity begins on your homesite, but rest assured that all of the background work is being done to create a smooth process!
Stage 1: Foundation
This is when we prepare the homesite, set foundation forms, install in-slab plumbing and the concrete is poured and cured. This is the point when many people wonder if their home will be large enough. Seeing the foundation without walls can be very deceiving. Approximate duration: 2-4 weeks
Stage 2: Framing
You'll be surprised how quickly this is done. One day there’s nothing but slab. A few days later there’s a house – well, at least the framework of one, with exterior and interior walls, as well as the roof. This is when you get your first true sense of your home’s breadth and shape. Approximate duration: 2-3 weeks
Stage 3: Roofing
This is when the structure becomes "weatherproof." We install decking, flashing and shingles. We also install the windows and wrap the exterior walls with sheathing. Approximate duration: 2-4 weeks
Stage 4: Drywall Prep
All electrical wiring, outlets and breaker boxes are installed at this stage. Air conditioning and heating equipment is in place, as well as plumbing. This is also when municipal inspections are completed. Approximate duration: 2-4 weeks

Stage 5: Drywall and Exterior Finish
After electrical, plumbing, HVAC, inspections and insulation, exterior and interior wall surfaces are covered and finished, your home begins to resemble its final form. Brick, stucco and/or stone goes up on the outside. Drywall is installed and texture is applied inside. Approximate duration: 2-4 weeks
Stage 6: Wood Trim and Doors
Once the drywall is complete and the texture has cured, the finish carpenters arrive to install all the interior doors and molding, as well as any staircase railings and balusters. Approximate duration: 1-2 weeks
Stage 7: Cabinets, Countertops and Paint
Next, we install kitchen and bathroom cabinets. Countertops are set in place, and all of the interior has been primed and painted. Approximate duration: 2-3 weeks
Stage 8: Fixtures and Flooring
After the paint is dry, your plumbing and light fixtures come in. This is also when carpeting, tile and wood flooring is installed. Approximate duration: 1-2 weeks
Stage 9: Builder Acceptance
During this stage, the Project Manager, Warranty Service Representative and your Personal Builder℠ perform a thorough inspection of your entire home to assure that it meets our high construction standards
Stage 10: Homeowner Introductory Tour
Your Personal Builder will introduce you to your new home, pointing out all its unique features and systems. In as few as ten days you will have closed and be given the keys to your brand new David Weekley home. Congratulations and welcome to the family!
