A Gallery View for Every Room

A picture is worth a thousand words, and a gallery wall can transform your home into a stunning display of photos and trinkets while easily personalizing any room to fit your style. Turning a blank space into a mosaic masterpiece of images might sound daunting, but by keeping a few tips and tricks in mind, your gallery will be ready to dazzle in no time!

Find Your Focus

Find Your Focus

Before grabbing your hammer and nails, take a moment to consider the theme and style of your gallery. Whether you use illustrations, paintings or family photos, choose similar color schemes to make your mosaic a cohesive work of art. For a series of pictures that contain an array of themes and hues, choose frames that are similar in color and style to bring the look together.

Once your images are chosen, lay the frames on the floor, measure their dimensions and use painter’s tape or cut out pieces of newspaper to put on the wall to help see how the final product will look. The key to a gallery wall is balance, so start your planning with the largest item to use as a focal point and work from the center of your design, out.

Remember Your Room

Different rooms have different needs when creating a gallery wall. For busy rooms with furniture and varying patterns, such as a Family Room or dining room, stick to a single hue for your framed pictures to unify your gallery without having it clash with any of the other décor. Add photos with pops of color in similar shades to one another to brighten up the room and draw subtle attention to your stunning display.

While Family Rooms are spaces to make merry, private areas, such as your Owner’s Retreat or a study, are places for you to relax and unwind after a long day. Stick to softer, muted colors for frames and images, or use a sepia filter to take away the intensity of vibrant colors and create a calmer atmosphere.

To help make any room look more spacious, use two rows of images spaced evenly apart from one another.

Hang without Hammering

Hang without Hammering

Update your gallery wall without hammering holes in your home with alternative display options. For rooms with built-in shelves, such as the kitchen, add stand-up frames and layer images on top of one another to transform the area into a casual artwork. Intersperse plates and other trinkets into your gallery to blend in with the room.

If you don’t have shelves on your walls, you can purchase an inexpensive, free-standing set. This option allows you to paint them whichever color you wish and fit them into any room in your home. Or, create a gallery wall with a series of bulletin boards that can be decorated and changed out as often and as easily as you like.

Whether in your kitchen or Family Room, a gallery wall offers a simple, elegant way to frame your home with personality. So let your creative side shine and express yourself with a montage of memories.
