Deck Your Door in DIY Décor

Deck Your Door in DIY Decor

With the changing of the season, it’s time to decorate your ho-ho-home for the holidays. Whether you go bold with a synchronized light show in your yard or want a sleek, chic look this year, decorating your door is a quick and easy way to invite the holidays into your home without breaking your budget.

Tastefully Traditional

Tastefully Traditional

Instead of hanging an old-fashioned wreath from your door, create a decoration you can use throughout the end of fall and all of winter by gluing plastic red berries and leaves to a pinecone wreath. Give it a more wintery, frosted feel by dusting a mix of light gray and white spray paint over it.

Or, decorate your door like a classic gingerbread house with fluffy, white garland around the perimeter and a red ribbon wrapped around the knob. Paint Styrofoam balls pale pink, pastel green and white, using them to outline any windows on your door. If your entry is windowless, hang a fake, jumbo lollipop from the center of your door to finish your candy palace.

Give your guests the gift of hospitality by wrapping your front door as a present. Cut out large strips of wrapping paper, being mindful of where they overlap, and fold the corners around your door like you would a box, securing it with tape along the sides. Remember to cut a hole out for the knob and lock, hiding the snipped edges behind small strips of garnish or a ribbon trim. Add a large gift tag from your family for a final touch!

You can also gift wrap flat boxes, adhering the bottom of them to the surface of your door with tags written for each guest coming to visit, rather than covering your entire door. For a simpler version, wrap two ribbons around your door, crossing them at the center and adding a large bow and gift tag on top of them.

Light Up Your Life

Light Up Your Life

Burst into the holiday season with a door outlined by string or meteor lights, letting them fall down over the top of the entryway. Wrap them around bundles of sticks and small branches, framing your door between them to make your own magical, winter wood. Or, braid Christmas lights, red ribbon and a green, fir garland to create a holiday flair fit for any home.

To decorate your porch without hanging anything, place round ornaments and a strand of LED fairy lights into a lantern, setting one lantern on either side of your door for a subtle holiday cheer to brighten the season.

Enjoy the holiday season and spread the warmth with a door welcoming joy and celebration into your home. Happy holidays!
