For the Second Time, David Weekley Homes is Honored by U.S. Department of Energy
David Weekley Homebuyers Win Big!
The United States Department of Energy (DOE) has recognized David Weekley Homes—Houston Division as the Energy Efficiency leader for Volume Builders with a Builders Challenge Award! Weekley ranks in the top 1.5% in energy efficiency for all homes being built in the United States.
What is the Builders Challenge?
The United States Department of Energy (DOE) posed a challenge to the homebuilding industry – to build a new generation of high-performance homes. To qualify for the Builders Challenge, a home must score 70 or less on the Home Energy Rating System (HERS). Each 1-point decrease in the HERS Index corresponds to a 1% reduction in energy consumption.
How did David Weekley Homes Qualify?
David Weekley Homes qualified 779 homes with average Home Energy Rating System (HERS) scores from 59 – 68. David Weekley’s Houston division has qualified more than 1,100 homes since signing on a Builders Challenge partner in December 2008 – more than any other builder. David Weekley homes in Houston are designed to use 18% less energy than ENERGY STAR homes (85 HERS) and at least 60% less energy than typical existing homes (130 HERS). Building Science Corporation recently calculated that David Weekley homeowners save an average of $1,200 annually on their utility bills.
Green is Good!
In addition to this Builders Challenge Award, David Weekley Homes also has been involved with the DOE Building America program and the Environments for Living® - Platinum program, making David Weekley Homes Houston's only Energy Triple Crown Builder! So, what makes a David Weekley EnergySaver Home in Houston better? A David Weekley EnergySaver Home is a home that is friendlier to our Customers, their pocketbooks and the environment. In addition to greater comfort over an older home, a David Weekley EnergySaver Home is less expensive to own. Recycled products, more efficient heating and air conditioning systems and thousands of man hours devoted to creating efficiency, all help you have lower energy bills and live better.

The Home Energy Rating System (HERS), established by the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET), allows homes to be measured against each other on a level playing field. The lower a home’s HERS Index, the more energy-efficient it is.
In this day and age, any home that isn’t a David Weekley EnergySaver™ home may be obsolete.
