Nothing can fully prepare you for the exhilaration of watching your dream home come to life. Most of our Homeowners rank it right up there with marriage and childbirth.
Perhaps the most difficult part of the whole process is waiting for something to happen. At the start, you might not see much activity on your homesite. But a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff is happening. This is when we secure the various permits, finalize plans, distribute blueprints to the plumbers, electricians and framers, and order materials. It might be several weeks before any major activity begins on your homesite.
Here’s what to expect over the next several months:
This is when the homesite is prepared, foundation forms are set, in-slab plumbing is installed and the concrete is poured and cured. This is the point when many people wonder if their home will be large enough. Seeing the foundation without walls can be very deceiving. Approximate duration: 2 – 4 weeks

You'll be surprised how quickly this is done. One day there’s nothing but slab. A few days later you drive by and there’s a house there - well, at least the framework of one, with exterior and interior walls, as well as the roof. This is when you get your first true sense of your home’s breadth and shape. Approximate duration: 2 – 3 weeks
This is when the structure becomes "weatherproof." We install decking, flashing and shingles. We also install the windows and wrap the exterior walls with sheathing. Approximate duration: 2 – 4 weeks
All electrical wiring, outlets and breaker boxes are installed. Air conditioning and heating equipment is in place, as well as plumbing. This is also when municipal inspections are completed. Approximate duration: 2 – 4 weeks
After electrical, plumbing, HVAC, inspections and insulation, exterior and interior wall surfaces are covered and finished. This is when your home begins to resemble its final form. Brick, stucco and/or stone goes up on the outside. Drywall is installed and texture is applied inside. Approximate duration: 2 – 4 weeks
Once the drywall is complete and the texture has cured, the finish carpenters arrive to install all the interior doors and molding, as well as any staircase railings and balusters.
Approximate duration: 1 – 2 weeks

Kitchen and bathroom cabinets are installed. Countertops are set in place and all of the interior has been primed and painted. Approximate duration: 2 – 3 weeks
After the paint is dry your plumbing and light fixtures come in. This is also when carpeting, tile and wood flooring is installed.
Approximate duration: 1 – 2 weeks
This is when the Project Manager, Warranty Service Representative and your Personal BuilderSM perform a thorough inspection of your entire home to assure that it meets our high construction standards
Your Personal Builder will introduce you to your new home, pointing out all its unique features and systems. In as few as ten days you will have closed and be given the keys to your brand new David Weekley home. Congratulations and welcome to the family!
