Two DIY Valentine’s Day Crafts
Signed with love
Add pizzazz to your kids’ school supplies by creating Valentine’s Day pencils.
For this crafty project, you’ll need pencils, a hot glue gun (for adult use), red and silver acrylic paint, a small paintbrush, and red and silver pipe cleaners. Using the paintbrush, paint the pencils red or silver. As they are drying, create pencil toppers by molding red pipe cleaners into heart shapes and attach silver pipe cleaners to the bottom of the heart. The remaining part of silver pipe cleaners will spiral around the pencil near the eraser. Add some hot glue to hold the spiral into place and let dry.
Now watch the heart toppers dance and jiggle when the creative writing begins!
Old crayons - New again!
Give new life - and shape - to worn crayons with this easy project!
Collect old or broken crayons and peel off the paper wrappers. Break crayons into small pieces and place them in a muffin tin — heart shaped in honor of Valentine’s Day — filling the tins about half way.
With help from mom, dad or older kids, place the crayon-filled muffin tins into a 275 degree oven and “bake” the crayons for 10 minutes or enough time for the crayons to completely melt. Remove from the oven, let cool for a few minutes and then place the tin into the refrigerator. When the crayon molds are completely cooled, pop out the new crayon shapes.
You can sort the crayons by color to form new solid colors or mix them to make an interesting color effect! Either way, the result brings new life to old crayons!
We hope your family enjoys these projects. Happy Valentine’s Day from the David Weekley Homes Team!
