Create the Ultimate Home Away from Home

Ahh, the holidays… Those crazy, wonderful, joyful, busy times when friends and family rush in from all over to enjoy time with you, whether you’re ready or not. Because you want to spend as much time as possible with your treasured guests and keep them from the added expense of a hotel, you may be planning to offer your “home-tel” services for their visit. Follow these tips to ensure your visitors have a five-star stay in your guest suite.

Put Restless Nights to Bed

Put Restless Nights to Bed

Sleeping in an unfamiliar bed can be difficult, so create a cozy environment to promote a full night’s sleep. Invest in a set of high-thread count cotton sheets, a medium-weight comforter or duvet and a variety of pillows ranging from feather to firm. Place extra blankets in a large basket, chest or storage ottoman near the bed for guests who desire extra warmth.

Set a shallow bowl or tray on the bedside table to serve as a convenient catch-all for visitor’s important items – jewelry, electronics, wallets and keys. For the night owls who enjoy reading in bed, be sure to include bedside lamps with easy-to-reach on/off switches. And, no one likes waking up to a dead phone, so keep at least one plug clear on each side of the bed for your guests to charge up.

Hit the Showers

It’s inevitable – your guests are bound to forget something they need. Stock your guest bath with the basics to avoid any late-night trips to the store. Keep a couple of new toothbrushes and travel-sized toothpastes in a drawer, and fill a basket or apothecary jar with small bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash and mouthwash. Mason jars are a great decorative storage option for cotton balls, cotton swabs and bobby pins. And, don’t forget to fill the linen cabinet with plenty of fresh towels.

To give your guests a touch of luxury, provide one or two plush robes they can slip on after a shower. This small investment will make a big impact on your visitors, and the robes can easily be thrown in the washer so they’re ready for your next guest!

Little Details, Big Difference

The holidays can get chaotic, and sometimes your guests may just want a quiet retreat for a little rest and relaxation. Ensure your company has everything they need to escape from the world for a while with a few extra amenities. Use a small table or cabinet to create a coffee nook – include a small coffee pot or electric kettle, tea bags, coffee, mugs and all the fixings. If space allows, incorporate at least one cozy chair ideal for curling up with a hot drink and a good book. Top off the space with the simple elegance of a few fresh blooms in a vase, which are sure to brighten up the room!

With these simple steps and some attention to detail, your guest suite will be “dressed” to impress in time for the holidays.
