Don’t Break the Bank Decorating for Fall
Making a few simple changes to your home décor can quickly update your home for fall, and help carry you through winter. With these small – and easy – changes to your main rooms, you’ll quickly put summer in the rearview mirror!
Accentuate the Difference
A few subtle changes in both the living room and foyer can quickly prepare your home for fall without going for broke. To freshen up the foyer, a dark area rug is perfect to warm up the space and to collect the dirt that comes with the flip-flop to boots transition.
Keep up the cozy changeover in the living room by adding some fall-colored accent pillows on the sofas. Cranberry, orange, dark brown and forest green are all great options. If your pillow covers aren’t removable, you can buy removable ones to go over existing throw pillows for an inexpensive solution.
Smells of the Season
The best part of fall is the aroma: pumpkin spice, cinnamon, nutmeg, pine and more. Capture some of those scents by using pine-scented hand soap in the kitchen – it’s also great for the bathroom! Put out some fall-colored hand towels in both locations to further complement the season.
You don’t have to isolate those yummy smells to the kitchen, though. Scented candles are a go-to for dining room centerpieces, but tying a silk leaf around the candle and putting it in a glass container makes the candle look even prettier! Take it one step further and put acorns from your own yard, or some fake cranberries, under the candle for some additional fall flair.
Darken Things Up a Notch
For the bedroom, you only need a few simple touches to finish off your seasonal transition. Add a dark-colored, but still neutral, quilt to the bed. The neutral color will ensure an easy cohesiveness with your current décor without doing much more. If you’re feeling more ambitious, change out the bedside lamp shades for fall-hued ones for an extra touch of autumn splendor.
