Refresh Your Décor – One Brushstroke at a Time

Wonderful Walls

Wonderful Walls
Using paint and an easy-to-use stencil, you can add some drama to your décor by creating a wallpaper-like design on an accent wall.
Materials:
Paint – two colors, one darker and one lighter
Paint rollers
Painting tray
Painter’s tape
Wall stencil – available online
Primer (optional)
Tape your wall along the ceiling, baseboards and the adjoining walls. Using your lighter color, paint the entire wall – you may need two coats to ensure even coverage. If you are painting over a dark color, you may need to do a coat of primer beforehand. Let each coat dry completely. Next, take your stencil and tape it to the center of your wall. Make sure it’s evenly in place – not tilted or crooked. Using the instructions provided by the stencil company, stencil your wall with the darker color from the center outward.
When you’re finished, you’re left with a conversation-starting wall that reflects your personality!
Do the Dip
Dip dying is one of the easiest and most stylish ways to spruce up furniture that has seen better days.
Materials:
High-gloss or satin paint – two colors, one darker and one lighter
Paint rollers
Painting tray
Painter’s tape
Drop cloth or tarp
Primer
Take your well-loved furniture piece and paint a coat of primer over the entire surface. After it dries, paint your darker color over the entire piece as a base color – you may need two coats to make the color look even. Let each coat dry completely. Let the final coat dry for 24 hours, then mark a place about a quarter of the way up each leg of the piece, starting at the bottom. Dip each leg into the lighter paint, stopping right above the marking. Let dry and enjoy your even-better-than-new, handmade design!
