Rev Up Your Home
In the past, kitchens were always the centerpiece of the home; this is the space where folks gathered, shared food and memories, but those meals are making way for a hot new trend with luxury garages. High-performance Italian cars, after all, are much sexier than high-performance Italian dishwashers.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics by the National Association of Home Builders, Homeowners in single-family, detached homes spent $3.2 billion in 2015 to add garages. Initially reserved for celebrities and the über wealthy, luxury garages are making their way into our communities.
Let There Be Space
Mark Twain famously said, “They’re not making any more land,” but he wasn’t familiar with hydraulic and mechanical lifting systems. These custom lifts can range from $3,000 to more than $1 million and can double the space in a garage by transporting vehicles to a subterranean level or upper area. As Homebuyers move to urban and central locations that feature walkability without the parking, they are getting more creative with how to store their cars. Offsite parking and storage are available but some prefer the intimacy of keeping their vehicles and other four-wheeled toys close.
Master-planned communities are zooming in to be a part of the garage-friendly trend by offering homes with three- or four-car garages or even bump-out space to house vehicles, boats, ATVs, bicycles and more. John Burns Real Estate Consulting confirmed that “92% of people shopping for a detached new-construction home want a two- or three-car garage.” While this additional space might not count toward living areas in terms of square footage, the benefit and storage provided goes the distance!

With excellent ventilation, open space and convenient access, the garage is an ideal spot for entertaining. Homeowners are taking this inspiration, as well as their washer and dryer hook ups, and upgrading the space to a personal bar with seating. Road & Track magazine has observed more Homeowners using their garage as a central location for gathering, entertaining and fun, claiming,... “You’re going to see more people turning those spaces into a more welcoming and usable chunk of their home.”
Americans are quickly developing a love affair with this previously utilitarian space. Garages are no longer a hot, cramped room solely for cars and storage, they’re becoming the luxury gathering spaces that our vehicles deserve.
