Throw blankets come in all sorts of patterns – buffalo check, vintage crochet, chunky wool, plaid and pinwheel quilt to name a few. Like the endless menu at the Italian restaurant down the street, too many options can sometimes feel overwhelming. Keep it simple and look for patterns that either complement each other or provide an appealing contrast; don’t try to mix patterns that only sort of match.
It's All About Texture
You can’t have a snuggle without blankets, and you can’t have a blanket without texture. Give your wooden chairs comfort and a trendy update with a knitted or flannel throw blanket. Cozy up your bed by laying a neatly folded cashmere blanket across your mattress to add texture and an extra layer of warmth. Or, go for extreme extravagance with a luscious faux-fur blanket on your bed, couch or chair to give it that Hollywood feel.
Tone Up, Tone Down
With a wide variety of colors and textures to choose from, it’s important to decide what role you want a throw blanket to play in your décor. If you want to let the chilly colors of winter inside, try navy, deep teal, light gray, pine green or beet red. If you want to tone a room down, lay out a neutral throw, such as khaki or ivory. If you think your room needs a little flavor, give it pop with a brightly-colored throw that’s guaranteed to attract attention!
