Houston, TX (June 19, 2019): David Weekley Homes recently partnered with 19 local nonprofit organizations across the country through the company’s CARE Build Month projects.
In Houston, the project benefitted Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a nonprofit dedicated to building and delivering assembled bunk beds to families in need so every child can have a comfortable and safe place to sleep at night. Approximately 69 team members from Weekley’s corporate headquarters volunteered more than 207 hours to build 30 bunk beds for families who lack the financial resources to purchase a bed, bedding and other basic needs.
“David Weekley Homes will be directly impacting 60 kids by helping them get off the floor and into a bed,” said Gary Akin, chapter president for Sleep in Heavenly Peace in Northwest Houston. “The Sleep in Heavenly Peace Houston chapter has directly impacted 800 kids over the last year and a half with organizations like David Weekley Homes, who take the time to come out and build these beds.”
The project included donations of more than $9,000, which were used to purchase bedding materials.
“Sleep in Heavenly Peace was so organized,” said MaryPat Christ, special projects analyst with David Weekley Homes. “You could tell they had a passion for what they were doing, and I am glad I got to be a part of it.”
The project was an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which is a charitable and volunteer program that partners team members, homeowners, homebuyers and community partners with nonprofits to make a positive impact in the lives of everyone it touches and in all the communities it builds through its purpose, Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives. This is accomplished by company team members volunteering countless hours to different organizations in their communities and by The David Weekley Family Foundation donating more than $200 million to a variety of organizations through the U.S. and abroad over the past 20 years.
