Chalking it Up to Another Successful Drive

Thanks to the amazing support from our Homeowners, Homebuyers, Real Estate Agents, vendors, trade partners and Team Members, our fifth annual School Supplies Drive helped erase the need for supplies as students across the country begin the new school year! By working together, our donations were able to help over 70,000 students and teachers.
As part of the volunteer and philanthropic efforts of our CARE program, we collected supplies, hygiene items and snacks during the months of July and August in 18 cities across the country. Through these collective efforts, we’re investing in a better future, one student at a time, by easing the financial burden of this daunting expense for thousands of families. Nearly $70,000 in supplies and materials were donated to 18 nonprofit organizations. In addition, The David Weekley Family Foundation donated more than $55,000 toward various much-needed wish list items.
“Because of your generosity we are able to give a child a strong start to the school year, to have the same advantage as their peers to receive a quality education despite their financial situation,” said Sara Fuentes, Executive Director at Minority Enterprise & Educational Development (MEED) in Denver. “I am still at a loss of words for how much this truly means for the kids.”

In San Antonio, members of the local Division kicked off the event during the company picnic, asking Team Members to donate supplies. During the actual drive, Homeowners and Homebuyers donated items, with two communities hosting ice cream trucks at model homes to generate excitement. In all, they were able to provide supplies for approximately 500 children through Christian Assistance Ministry.

Team Members in Austin also geared up for the drive by hosting special community events, including an ice cream social. “Getting the whole city involved in giving back to our community is a wonderful feeling,” said Natalie Lawson, a Project Coordinator in Austin. “When you experience the joy in giving back to others, it reminds us that caring for and helping one another is joyful. Knowing we are able to help these sweet kiddos have their own school supplies and new things personally brings joy to my heart.”
The Denver Team was able to help 500 children in the Denver Public School System by supplying items totaling $2,000 to MEED. Salt Lake City Team Members and David Weekley Homeowners participated in the United Way of Salt Lake City’s “Stuff the Bus” drive, receiving more than 8,000 items for the organization.
CARE to Make a Difference
CARE to Make a Difference
This drive allows us to extend Our Purpose: Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives beyond the company – and into the community – to make a difference. This is accomplished by Team Members volunteering with different organizations in their communities and by The David Weekley Family Foundation donating more than $200 million to a variety of organizations throughout the U.S. and abroad over the past 20 years.
We are so incredibly proud to work alongside so many individuals to impact the lives of thousands of children across the country. We hope you’ll consider joining us for our next event from November 1 – 15, our Giving Thanks, Giving Back Thanksgiving Drive, as we continue enhancing lives across the country!
