David Weekley Hosts Second Annual Back to School Supply Drive

At David Weekley Homes, we believe in giving back and making a difference in the cities where we live and build. As part of the philanthropic and charitable efforts of our CARE program, we held our second annual Back to School Supply Drive in 22 markets across the country.

During the months of July and August, Team Members, Homeowners, Homebuyers, and vendor and community partners joined together to collect school supplies and hygiene items for 22 nonprofit organizations. As a result, thousands of students were able to begin the school year with the tools needed to be successful.

David Weekley Homes Team Members collected $2,000 in school supply items for Integrated Family Community Services.
The Back to School Supply Drive benefiting Communities in Schools of North Texas provided items for 200 children.

“We were blown away by the commitment of the David Weekley Homes Team Members to A Gift For Teaching,” said Jane Thompson, president of A Gift For Teaching in Orlando. “Nearly 500 of Central Florida’s most deserving students will be well equipped for school, thanks to the generous donation of backpacks filled with our top five essential supplies."

Through the CARE program, David Weekley Homes has an opportunity to extend Our Purpose of Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives beyond the company – and into the community. This is accomplished by Team Members volunteering countless hours with different organizations in their communities and by The David Weekley Family Foundation donating more than $100 million to a variety of organizations throughout the U.S. and abroad over the past 20 years.

“You never know who will be the next great inventor, surgeon, world leader or philanthropist,” said Beth Stitt, Lead Estimator and CARE Council Member with David Weekley Homes in Atlanta. “It is truly a blessing to be able to help a child better their education.”

In Indianapolis, Team Members collected supplies for Teachers’ Treasures, an organization that obtains and distributes school supplies to teachers in need. “I believe that everything starts with our children because they are our future, and we need to make sure we supply them with the necessary tools to educate them,” said Heather Whalen, Project Coordinator with David Weekley Homes in Indianapolis.

We’re incredibly thankful to all of our Homebuyers and Homeowners who joined with us to make this project a success. There are many life-changing stories about the great work our Team Members are doing in communities across the country, and we hope that you will consider joining us in our future efforts as we strive to create a culture of caring and contribution. By working together, we can build stronger communities and enhance the lives of those in need!

The Team in Minneapolis/St. Paul collected items that will assist 3,400 children through Common Hope in Guatemala.
