The Beauty of Berries on Branches

The Beauty of Berries on Branches
Rose hips and cranberries, when left on their branches, are deliciously decorative! All you’ll need is several branches of rose hips or cranberries that you can find at your local nursery or natural foods store, a few tall glass containers (apothecary jars without lids or clear vases will work) and floating candles.
Simply trim the branches and place them in your glass container, add water, then add a floating candle. Branches from just about any young tree are a great option since they will be thin and flexible. Another option is to place a votive candle in a small glass container and surround the candle with loose cranberries.
DIY with Dragon Fruit
Fan your imaginative flames and turn this exotic tropical fruit into a candle! Here’s how:
Step 1: Melt wax from your old candles. Fill a pot with two inches of water and set it on your stove. Next, put a candle (maybe two or three, depending on the size) in the water and let it melt on your stove’s lowest setting.
Step 2: Cut a piece of dragon fruit in half, remove the fruit’s pulp, wash the skins and let them dry completely. For the wicks, cut two 4” pieces of string and tie them to a pencil. Lay the pencil across the tops of the skins, positioning the strings inside the centers. Next, pour the melted wax into the dragon fruit skins and let it harden completely.
Step 3: Cut the strings so that half an inch is left for a wick, then light your candle!

Keep in mind both of these projects use perishable items, so plan when to make them accordingly so that they are fresh when you want to use them. And, remember to burn candles safely.
Happy lighting!
