Dare to CARE
At David Weekley Homes, we are not just committed to building dream homes for our Customers. We are dedicated to living out Our Purpose of Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives. For more than 30 years, David Weekley Homes has been supporting outreach and philanthropic efforts. In 2014, we took a more focused step forward, creating the CARE program to further strengthen our efforts and make an even greater impact in the communities where we live and work.
The journey to establishing CARE began when hundreds of Team Members, Homeowners and Homebuyers were interviewed and surveyed to determine how and where we could focus our philanthropic efforts. Their feedback revealed a strong desire to get involved, and it was from this insight that the CARE program was born. The program was designed to unite Team Members, Homeowners, Homebuyers, and Trade and Vendor Partners, giving them a structured way to work together to make a meaningful difference in the communities where we live and work. We define CARE as:
C – Committed to Building Community Character
A – Active in our Community
R – Responsible to our Community
E – Enhancing our Community
“A lot of companies have volunteer programs, but ours is built into the core values of our company starting with David himself,” National Care and Wellness Specialist Sarah Garcia said. “It’s instilled into who we are at all levels of the business. We talk about it often, we encourage all Team Members regardless of their job requirements to participate, and the Team recommends organizations for our company funds to benefit within our local communities. We believe in community at David Weekley Homes, and that’s exactly what CARE works to support.”
“Time is one of the most precious things we have, and being able to impact my community by donating mine is incredibly rewarding. But more than that, I get to be a role model for my son. CARE allows me to be the kind of person I want him to be,” said Raleigh Senior Sales Consultant and CARE Representative Tracey Riordan.
By creating a program to guide and unify our market-level initiatives, we’ve been able to strengthen our charitable impact across the country. Since the establishment of our CARE program, we’ve launched three national initiatives: School Supplies Drive, Build Month and our Giving Thanks, Giving Back Thanksgiving Drive.
How We CARE
We host three national CARE events annually, allowing us to make a significant impact across the country.
The School Supplies Drive was the first formal companywide CARE initiative, and it continues to be a successful event! Team Members partner with Homebuyers, Homeowners and community partners to collect school supplies for donations to nonprofits and schools. During our eleventh annual School Supplies Drive in 2025, Team Members and community partners raised more than $186,000, benefiting 14,000 students and teachers.
Our Giving Thanks, Giving Back Thanksgiving Drive began as a local initiative in Charlotte in 2006. Charlotte was so successful that our other markets began hosting a Thanksgiving drive, which led to it becoming our second companywide CARE event. During our Thanksgiving Drive in 2025, 1,502 Team Members volunteered more than 7,300 hours. With the help of Homeowners, Real Estate Agents, Vendors and Trade Partners, more than 230,600 pounds of food and $159,145 were donated to feed members of our communities in need.
Build Month is our CARE initiative where we use our unique skillset as home builders to help others, building everything from beds to ramps to children’s playsets. Other Build Month projects often include painting and cleaning. Our Trade and Vendor Partners are important participants and supporters of our Build Month projects from volunteering their skills to donating necessary supplies, such as lumber. Through the hard work of our Team Members during our Build Month projects in 2025, we benefited 5,600 individuals.
Beyond the three national events, Team Members pursue and organize more ways to serve local nonprofits in their communities. These efforts include volunteering, hosting collection drives, donating blood, participating in fundraising runs and more.

Since the inception of David Weekley Homes, David felt a deep conviction that the company’s success was a gift meant to be stewarded. In 1991, he and Bonnie Weekley established the David Weekley Family Foundation, now the Dovetail Impact Foundation, as an expression of their faith and a practical way to “love your neighbor as yourself.”
In the early days, the David Weekley Family Foundation focused on making an impact in Houston. Today, the Dovetail Impact Foundation supports organizations around the world, reaching all the way to Sub-Saharan Africa, India and beyond. The Foundation’s focus on scaling bold philanthropic ideas has allowed it to transform entire systems, from supporting education models that improve millions of student outcomes across the U.S. to strengthening the community health systems in Liberia.
The Dovetail Impact Foundation is funded by a third of the net profits from David Weekley Homes. Over the past 30+ years, the Dovetail Impact Foundation has grown to support more than 100 global Partners and has donated more than $400 million in grants to organizations all over the world, including those we partner with through CARE.
“The Dovetail Impact Foundation’s work has given us an opportunity to experience the incredible impact of well-meaning people dedicating their lives to serving others,” said President of the Dovetail Impact Foundation Robin Bruce. “These are the people who are quite literally building dreams and enhancing the lives of families around the world. It is an honor to be a small part of their groundbreaking work.”
As we look ahead, our commitment to paying it forward remains as strong as ever. From local community initiatives to global partnerships, we will continue to invest our time, talents and resources where they matter most. The past 50 years have shown us what’s possible when purpose leads the way, and we’re just getting started.
